Mokhoka
I thought we all play golf to put the ball in the hole with lesser
shots.
You once told me "it is not how you drive, it is how you arrive".
The man deserves an accolade. Rocco Antonio Mediate did it for guys like
us, who don't always get on to the green "ON REGULATION TIME".
Enjoy your week.

All those four eagles were flukes. He didn't put any one of them. One
was hole in one on Thursday, two were 3rd shots on par 5s, one was
yesterday 2nd shot par 4 no 17 from about 120 yards.

Short hitters delight in Rocco's win
<http://everythinggolf.blogs.heraldtribune.com/11008/short-hitters-delig
ht-in-rocco%e2%80%99s-win/>
by Bart Pfankuch
<http://everythinggolf.blogs.heraldtribune.com/author/pfankuch/>
The oft-smiling, short-hitting Rocco Mediate proved once again that you
don't have to bomb it off the tee to play golf and win.
In case you missed it, Mediate - he being the 47-year-old best known as
the near-Tiger beater during the 2009 U.S. Open - had four eagles during
the Frys.com Open this past weekend and won by a shot for his sixth tour
win but first since 2002.
The pivotal moment of the tourney, though, came on hole No. 17 and
showed once again why bombing it big off the tee is nice but not
necessary to play winning golf.
Mediate was tied with long-hitting Bo Van Pelt when they came to the tee
on 17, a par-4 that measures 358 yards on the card but was playing about
298 yards, according to TV coverage. The green is guarded by a large
pond in front and bunkers all around.
Van Pelt seemed to hold all the cards after he hit a high, soaring
driver onto the green and was staring down a medium-length putt for
eagle 2 on the par-4. The other guy in the group, Alex Prugh, almost
holed his drive for double-eagle and by making a 3-footer for eagle, put
himself in a position to win.
And then came Mediate, his bad back creaking and his toothy grin fading
with the lead he lost midway through the back nine. And what does he do
- he hits a simple iron shot lay-up into the middle of the fairway about
116 yards out.
Advantage big hitters, right?
Wrong! Mediate had Prugh mark his ball near the hole because the
diminutive near-senior player decided he was going to go for the pin,
and the win. And what did he do? Mediate hit a pitching wedge that
landed six feet behind the cup, spun back and went into the hole for
eagle. We couldn't hear it, but you could see Rocco say to himself,
"What the 'H' is going on here?"
What happened next shows why golf is a game worth playing and watching.
Van Pelt ran his eagle putt by the hole, and missed the comebacker for
birdie, settling instead for par. That was a two-shot swing that gave
Mediate a two-shot lead that he held onto by playing conservatively once
again on the final hole where his playing partners out-drove him by 60
yards.
It should make sense to us amateurs, who have all seen consistency and
accuracy trump power. I mean, who hasn't been paired up with an older
guy or gal who all they do is hit it short and straight, short and
straight, short and straight, and then make every putt within shouting
range to out-score the guy who bombs his drives 300 yards?
Love this game, just love it!
