No disgrace whatsoever, you were aware of the 16 handicap before tee off, so you had 18 holes to make up the numbers with birdies! to be fair I think 12 is not his handicap, 15 / 16 is the most suitable for him, we don't want him to run away from golf.

Why do have to single-out Mr.KG Sebesho.

He was playing with the two doctors, the man was on fire on the 4 holes
until he switched on to play with John & Bev.

They managed to slow down his performance rate and he was so dizzy on the
back 9 and managed to grab and smash 12 points.

Yes but Mr Sebesho knew before tee off that he is playing Mr Muneri of 16 handicap, it's not like he went out to burn the course only to discover at number 19 that Mr Muneri is actually a middle weight and not a feather weight. Mr Monareng's handicap should not be looked in isolation, it's in sync with Moremi & Machaba! if they are 18 he should also be 18.

    Bra Darkie,

You are spot-on that we hardly use our SAGA handicaps because they are
not a true reflection but we know each other thus have handicaps
amongst ourselves. We have plenty guys that have a high SAGA handicap
that in reality play at much lower handicaps and vice versa also
applies. It has been a therefore a norm to meet and settle handicap
matters between ourselves in a satisfactory manner. These commitee has
agreed that we will play at 18 even though at times we have played at
a much higher handicap in reality and this get reviewed from time to
time. We have people like yourself who are handicap 9 on the sytem but
play at a handicap 6 against us (Lehaiwa, Edwin and myself) and it is
in the process of being reviewed down although against the rest of
Renaissance you use a 10. Sebesho doesnt have an official handicap
would you play him at a 18 as it is stipulated in most golf days? The
committee has reviewed his to a 12 and agianst the trio is to be
reviewed to a 10. There are a lot of Renaissance members who the
committee need to meet and review as matter of urgency e.g. Moss
Mafuwane, Bev Tsomela, Sabata Mohao, Leslie Kekana, lerato and people
    may bring more other names.

    Monareng my Friend

A serious matter needs a serious elaborate answer. Are you saying that the SAGA made a mistake when they allocated you a 16 handicap, without your knowledge?

    Regards.

    Tubs,

Mine has been officially revised from 15 downto 11 in less than 6 weeks. I think that's steep enough to give me a handicap cut exemption.

    Leniency please!

Yes what happened is that I didnt enter a couple score at clubs where
they swap your card before you play and there was a technical problem
at my club and i wasnt notified of the outstandings scores and as a
default a score of 72 was allocated and it messed up my handicap.
Nevertheless I am comfortable playing at 18 and my goal is to start
the new year on 16 and therefore not manipulating this handicap down
but trying to match it. I am of the opionion that we shoudnt allow
anyone who has been playing golf for at least 18 months to play with
any handicap higher than an 18 but people should be pressurised to
play and match the 18 handicap. Maybe the Renaissance handicap
committee should have a session and review all member's handicap and
give each individual a handicap target for the 1 January 2011. It is
about time we put pressure on ourselves to improve our golf just like
at school where you cannot continously count from 1-10 every year.

    Monareng my Friend

Honesty must be the name of the game here. We all have to enter our
scores in the SAGA system, which is the official handicap system. We
have to stop deciding willy-nilly on people's handicaps. It messes their
game and sometimes makes it unpleasant to play with our usual crowd. If
you want to play off an 18 instead of your official 16, that is fine,
but sounds unfair. If you force a particular player to play off an 18
instead of a 24, you are already putting the poor fellow at a 6 shot
    disadvantage. Pretty unfair!

    From SAGA website: www.saga.co.za <http://www.saga.co.za/>

    Purpose of a Handicap

As you are aware a handicap is intended to provide a means for players
of unequal ability to compete on a more or less even basis. A handicap
should reflect the ability of a golfer to play the game, and not the
average performance. This means that more focus must be placed on a
players good rounds, rather than simply applying a 10 out of 20 formula.
The reality is that low-handicap golfers tend to play on - or near their
handicap - with their good rounds typically being up to five strokes
below their handicap. High-handicap golfers tend to have much larger
variations in their scores. A high-handicap golfer may not have many
rounds below handicap, but when it occurs the round may be as much as 10
strokes below handicap. All of the elements of the handicap calculation
described below are designed to manage these aspects in a balanced
    fashion.

Let us stick to the SAGA official handicap system.

    Gentlemen and Ladies.
Collen Macheke gave our Captain(Soso) a handicap calculator, for our team to calculate our "internal" handicaps. We are aware that we need our separate system which we ourselves have to monitor. My only problem is that we should not reward mediocrity or lassitude, our handicaps should only drop, we should not recognise the elevations, as this denotes slackness, we ha ve to patiently wait for a person to come out of a slump from your lowest handicap. The only way we can make this a reality is by playing together more often. And in conclusion let us keep our eyes on the golf ball and less on our handicaps and surely we will be better golfers.

    Have yourselves a great evening.

    Bev.
